Examining the effects of sex differences in atypical Alzheimer's Disease Lead Investigator: Eleni Varelas Institution : Northwestern University E-Mail : elenivarelas2018@u.northwestern.edu Proposal ID : 634 Proposal Description: I am interested in learning how the levels of CSF biomarkers differ based on the sex of patients with atypical AD and also typical AD. There is compelling literature on why patients with typical AD are predominately females however, it is not yet known why men are actually favored for atypical AD. I wish to dig a bit deeper, beyond just acknowledging the sex discrepancies between disease types, to exploring the CSF levels of p-tau, A??42, and ATI. If this project is successful, sex may even become a biomarker for diagnosing Alzheimer???s pathology for patients with an atypical clinical presentation. Also, priceless knowledge will be gained as to how the biomarkers act and differ between the sexes.
